What Are Dermal Fillers?
At Dr. Adams Cosmetic, General, and Implant Dentistry, we offer dermal filler injections to help our patients maintain their youthful glow. As we get older, we naturally lose some of the volume in our faces and as this happens, our facial skin begins to stretch. This often causes wrinkles because the muscles in our face are now working closer to the surface of the skin. Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid gel – a natural substance in the skin that gives volume and hydration. This gel is injected underneath the skin to smooth out the wrinkles and plump up certain areas of the face. They are typically injected in the bottom half of the face, in the nasolabial folds, oral commissures, and marionette lines.
What Can They Do?
Dermal Fillers are most often used to help with early signs of aging by bringing fullness back into the face. They can also soften facial lines and creases, plump lips, decrease shadows or bags under the eyes, enhance facial contours, improve the appearance of scars, and much more. While they do help you achieve a youthful appearance, dermal fillers cannot produce the same results as surgical cosmetic procedures such as face lifts, eyelifts, etc.
How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Dermal fillers and their results depend on the product used and the specific patient receiving the injections. They are temporary treatments that can last anywhere from six months up to two years. Typically, the denser the product and the deeper the injection, the longer it is going to last.
